There is usually a lot of gaming talk in our house. Most of my friends tend to come along and we usually play video games the majority of the time. My brother who is 10 always seems left out when my friends come along. This is because most of the games we play don’t seem to actually intrigue and excite him. As a result, I decided to dig deep and look for games that I could buy for my brother in order to keep him occupied in the event I am busy.
Here are the top 10 video games for a 10-year old I came across.
1. Marvel’s Avengers
My brother is a super fan of the Marvel Series and as a result, this was a no-brainer for me in getting him this game. Since it features the iconic Marvel superheroes such as Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor, It was easy to convince him to play the game all by himself. This was the first game that introduced him to online gaming and with his school friends, they would play for hours without me needing to check on them.
2. Ratchet and Clank
Ratchet and Clank is a third-person shooter video game. It is a fictitious game that focuses on interplanetary travel within several different galaxies. The missions are relatively hard and challenging sometimes but that is the key to the game. It unlocks the thinking capabilities of the player as they are tasked with finding ways of solving the mysteries. As you would expect, my brother was always eager to finish a mission and him being occupied made me happy.
3. Super Mario 3D All-Stars
This list would be complete without adding the famous Mario game. Having played and enjoyed the Super Mario Bros in my early childhood, I felt nostalgic for getting my brother this game. Having enjoyed the games in my childhood, I knew that he would enjoy the game too and as expected, he was already engraved in the game and trying to level up each time.
4. Plants Vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville
A third-person shooter game that allows players to play in single or multiplayer format and connect with other players online and defend their tuff from the zombies. It is sad that the game publisher cancelled the game production but it is still a good game nonetheless. My brother was fascinated by the adventure in the game and also increased his curiosity about online gaming even more.
5. Team Sonic Racing
Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog will definitely enjoy this game. This is because the game is immersive and competitive and thus makes the boys really engaged in the races. Playing with friends made him happier overall as we would always hear them debate on who is the fastest. Always a joy hearing them argue about it.
6. The Sims 4
This game allows players to create a world of their own from characters to landscapes. This game does improve the creativity of a player as they begin creating their world from their wildest fantasies. The adventure is what fascinated my brother. This is because he was able to jog his creativity overall.
7. Marvel’s Spider-Man
How can we forget about spider-man? This was hand down the game my brother kept on requesting each time we would talk about Marvel. It is a third-person game where a player controls Spidey as he saves the city. There isn’t much to say as the game speaks for itself. As expected, when my brother got the game, he would not leave the console at all.
There are other spiderman games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the widely anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which is set to be released in 2023 on the PS5 Console.
8. Pokémon Sword
This is a role-playing video game that lets players control a young Pokémon trainer who goes on a quest to catch mythical creatures called Pokémon and battle other trainers. It is an adventure game. He did play the game and was always on a quest to get the 400 Pokémon in the game.
9. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
This game is an addition to the iconic “Legend of Zelda” series. It allows a player to control popular character Links as he defeats villain Calamity Gannon and saves the kingdom of Hyrule. Being an adventure game, my brother tends to play this game every evening when everyone is watching TV. He finds it as a way for him to be distracted when we are watching a movie/show he is not interested in.
10. Untitled Goose Game
This is a puzzle game where a player controls a goose who bothers the residents of an English Village. It is a funny game that always brings chuckles to him.
