Having an empire in GTA Online is a sweet thing as your businesses will keep on generating income for you as you play. However, this comes with its problems. The most notable problem is business raids.
What is a Raid in GTA Online?
A raid is a mission that is triggered by having a huge amount of stock in your business. A player is placed in a “defend your business” mission where they are tasked with protecting their business from being raided and losing their products.
The missions are triggered in free mode and without any consent making it difficult to anticipate the raids.
Once in the mission, if you fail to defend the business or die in the process of defending your business, then all your stock is lost and you’ll have to complete a setup mission to restock your business.
In the event, you successfully defend your business, all your stock is returned and the countdown for the next raid resets.
Which Businesses can get raided?
The businesses that can get raided are:
- Bunker
- Nightclub
- Special Crate Warehouse
- All MC Businesses
What triggers a Raid for any business?
The raid algorithm is responsible for triggering a raid and creating the “defend your business” mission. It relies on the raid countdown(idle time) and the amount of stock you hold in your business.
The raid countdown is time spent in free roam while not being engaged in any business activities, free mode events such as business battles, heists or any other job. The countdown happens in the background and only triggers when in free mode. Additionally, the countdown is cumulative and not limited to a single session. As a result, the timer resumes where it left off the next time you log in.
The amount of stock is pretty straightforward. If you exceed a certain limit, the countdown begins.
Once the timer runs out unfortunately the mission triggers.
Raid Algorithm for each Business
Bunker
A raid is triggered when the stock level is 50%. The idle time for the bunker is 5 hours if you don’t have security upgrades and 10 hours if you have security upgrades.
Nightclub
For the nightclub, a raid is triggered when the stock level is 20% when the nightclub does not have security upgrades and 40% when the security upgrades have been installed.
The idle time for the nightclub is 4 hours with no security upgrades and 8 hours with security upgrades.
The good thing with nightclubs is that you can avoid raids by nightclub promotion missions every 4/8 hours.
Cocaine Lockup
A raid is triggered when the stock value is $80k when the lockup does not have security upgrades and $112k when the security upgrades have been installed.
The idle time for the cocaine lockup is 3 hours without security upgrades and 6 hours with security upgrades.
Meth Lab
A raid is triggered when the stock value is $68k when the lab does not have security upgrades and $95.2k when the security upgrades have been installed.
The idle time for the meth lab is 4 hours without security upgrades and 8 hours with security upgrades.
Counterfeit Cash Factory
A raid is triggered when the stock value is $56k when the factory does not have security upgrades and $78.4k when the security upgrades have been installed.
The idle time for the meth lab is 5 hours without security upgrades and 10 hours with security upgrades.
Weed Farm
A raid is triggered when the stock value is $48k in the case of no security upgrades and $67.2k when the security upgrades have been installed.
The idle time for the weed farm is 6 hours without security upgrades and 12 hours with security upgrades.
Document Forgery Office
A raid is triggered when the stock value is $36k if the office has no security upgrades and $56k when the security upgrades have been installed.
The idle time for the weed farm is 7 hours without security upgrades and 14 hours with security upgrades.
Special Crate Warehouse
- Small – 12+ crates stored, raid countdown 5 hours
- Medium – 30+ crates, raid countdown 5 hours
- Large – 78+ crates, raid countdown 5 hours
What do Security Upgrades help with?
Security Upgrades are not a guarantee that you will not be raided. The main purpose of the Security Upgrades for businesses is to delay the trigger of a raid by doubling the idle timer.
When can I be raided?
You can only be raided when you are registered as a business owner(CEO/VIP or MC President)
How to prevent a raid
A good way to prevent a raid is to ensure that if you are playing in free mode in GTA Online, Do NOT register as a business owner. This will delay the trigger. In the case of the Special Crate warehouse, ensure you have one crate less to avoid triggering a raid. For example, For a small warehouse, ensure the crates you hold are 11 or fewer.
The other way is to ensure that you don’t exceed the stock threshold for the affected businesses to prevent triggering the raid countdown.
Always sell your stock to ensure that you don’t lose your stock.
In the case of a raid, Can I cancel the raid?
Yes. One way is to close the GTA game. Do not find a new session as the raid will be classified as failed and you will lose all your stock and staff.
In Closing
Business raids can be costly to anyone and we are only given one chance to “defend” our business in the case of a raid. Since the idle timer runs in the background, there is no way of knowing when the raid will occur. As a result, I would advise anyone to always keep their stock to a minimum to ensure that they don’t lose the majority of their stock
